Greetings all!February 2019

We are back from our adventure packed trip to Norway and Mr. Alfred and his parents.  It was a great time, but flying these days is not as nice as it was once upon a time.

This newsletter is going to be a combo June and July issue and I hope you will find the articles interesting.

I am hoping to get to my first farmers markets before this actually hits your hands. What with travel and the way wetter and cooler weather, the farmers are struggling to get produce out and I have had no opportunity to get out to them (not a huge fan of schlepping around in driving rain).

I will be competing in the Michigan Senior Olympics in early August and hope to do a competition in September to qualify for State level competition in December.

This past June 14th Dr. Ray and I Celebrated 39 years since graduation from Chiropractic College and by totally randomness ended up in Grand Ledge on 6/14/89 and fell seriously in love with the community.  We have been extremely grateful for the opportunities to help guide local residents on the path to health and for the many opportunities to serve the local community as well.

Greetings ALL!May 2019

Amidst all the riotous color and daily changing scenery, we find ourselves getting ready for all the end of school year stuff – proms, graduations, graduation parties, etc. You may be feeling some of the mild panic that goes into getting the house/garden ready for the event.

Be kind to yourself and rope friends into help – this is seldom a one man /woman operation and you would like to be present to enjoy the occasion – not off in some corner nursing your wounds from overdoing!

This is also the time to start looking out for the farmers markets to start opening (yay!!!) so if you see a good one share it with us please.  My faves are East Lansing and Portland.

Two bookkeeping notes to be aware of:

We are closed Memorial day AND we will be in Norway June 6th thru the 15th.

Fees for office visits go up June 1st.  We have not had a fee change in almost 10 years. This will not affect medicare patients as that is a government set fee.

GREETINGS ALL!February 2019

Well, Spring is trying her level best to come out and play….birdies are out singing, earthworms are doing their thing, skunks are skunking (a sure sign!) and our temperatures are trending EVER so slowly upward!

March Madness and all it’s heart stopping moments is done and we thank our Spartans for their very best efforts! So now we turn to baseball (Go Tigers!) and golf …..and what do these sports have in common?….very one-sided activity ….so lots of stretching, working your swing the other way to compensate, and make sure that you get checked regularly so that you can perform pain free and in a balanced fashion.

For the daredevils who lift adrenaline level a smidge……make sure you get adjusted to keep your spine in line and your body out of trouble!

For the armchair sports enthusiasts, you still need to make sure you get checked…especially if you bounce out of your chair yelling with excitement – strange tweaks can happen!

And when all else fails WALK, WALK, WALK…we have some lovely trails and I would like to wish my friend Joni well when she tackles the month long North Country Trail  in June…..A lot of walking over many days….dedication!

The Latest from Charmaine: March 2019

Greetings all,February 2019

Spring is playing coy with her “springy” days and smells (let’s pretend we didn’t see the mud, shall we?) It is a time to enjoy the first bird sightings, listen to the birdsong, and watch the gentle greening of the world around us.

Garden dreams will slowly begin to take shape and it is always important that you don’t dive head first (literally and figuratively, LOL) into you projects.  Plan them out so the right tools are handy and remember- that while the temptation is there to kill the project …..ROME was not built in a day and weekend warriors pay a heavy price for wayyyyy too much enthusiasm!!

This newsletter talks about the evils of diet pop/soda pop drinks…..something to think about. It’s always interesting to hear someone order fries and a diet pop as that is probably a pretty lethal combination there and no calories are saved in the effort in reality.

Also,  read an interesting article about how chiropractic promotes wellness.

As a newish grandmother I love the piece about the way grandparents are perceived by their grand kids and this Grammy loves her Face Time with her little man (he sometimes demands that Mom call us so he can talk, which I think is a hoot!)

Meanwhile, enjoy the arrival of spring in all her wonderment.

Make sure you get checked and adjusted so that you can enjoy spring and see you in the office, on the yoga mat or under the barbells!

The Latest From Charmaine: February 2019

Greetings all!!February 2019

Well, if you wanted Winter…are you happy now??  This has been both BEAUTIFUL AND UGLY.  The snow is gorgeous and yet what it has done to schedules and school days is definitely not pretty.

The good news is that we are inching closer to SPRING (March 1st if you are of a meteorological mindset) March 20th is the DAY !!!

My mail has had sporadic garden catalogs come in and I look out the window and go HURRY! HURRY!

One bright spot might be if you grow your own microgreens/sprouts.  Easy peasy and a constant supply of great fresh greens can be yours unless you are lucky enough to get out to the Farmers Markets that run thru’ the winter (but appear to be limited to the east side and also at hours that might not be convenient).

Interesting article in this newsletter from the Canadian Health Minister.

Any questions about the content…shoot me an e-mail (lanjorc@yahoo.com)

The Latest from Charmaine: January 2019

April 2018Well.. we made it to 2019 and we are flirting with a winter which cannot seem to make up its mind whether we are actually going to a have a REAL winter.  Oh well, the weather will do its own thing and we are just going have to live with whatever Mother Nature deals us.

As we move into this New Year, let’s decide that this is the year that we will actually make those changes we want to make…but we are going take it one month at a time and one project at a time.

In my last newsletter I suggested that we make small changes and work on one change per month.  This month the topic is exercise.  Check this out for more info on that.

Just picked up the mail and of course it is that time when all the gardening catalogs are coming in. We can sit comfortably in a warm snug house with a cup of tea/coffee and drool/fantasize about what we would like to do in the garden. Time to seriously think about having a veggie patch, just for the pure “groundedness” that tending a garden offers and the benefits of you own homegrown wonderments that will be sooooo much better that anything store-bought.

Meanwhile, get out and enjoy the snow(?) as much as possible (the Norwegians say there is no bad weather.. just bad clothes!).  Dress appropriately and think about all the health benefits of getting out and exercising and being in nature…(makes winter go quicker if you are not a fan of winter).

Latest News from Charmaine: November 2018

April 2018Greetings all,

As we approach what, for many, is a very stressful time, it is important that we start identifying the “stressors” early and work on a workaround.

Whether it’s a case of trying to do too much (delegate folks…even busy execs do that); or dealing with that one family member that seems to push all the wrong buttons (try reminding yourself they have always been that way and BREATHE FIRST, then CHOOSE not to react), to trying to keep everybody happy (an alternating event/meal/year program presented with a loving attitude and let the other party choose how they will react –and you are NOT responsible if they choose to sulk!!!) and the list could go on.  It can be a minefield….but you do not have to enter if you can find a way around it.

But seriously, make getting checked and adjusted to keep yourself from being subluxated and not being your best self on the day a MAJOR priority.

While all of the holiday shenanigans are going on, I will be competing in the USA Power lifting (Michigan) State Finals on Dec 1st…..so we will leave the office at 5pm on 11/30 to get to our venue and get a good night’s rest.

Our grandson (and he is GRAND) Alfred and his parents are coming home for Christmas so our office hours will be posted soon for the period 12/21-12/28/2018.

Meanwhile, Feast well and smile and laugh as you give THANKS.

See you in the office, on the table,on the mat or under the barbells.!

Latest News from Charmaine: October 2018

April 2018Apologies for this being published a bit late. Stay tuned for the November newsletter coming out shortly!

Well, the first part of October was an exquisite mix of the weirdest weather, and when you throw in the likes of the Grand Ledge Marching Band Festival in totally drenching rain and Color Cruise in very cool weather along with a couple of really HOT, muggy days….. the old wives tales of the weather is responsible for all the hacking and sniffling come roaring out the closet.

Please, Please let’s understand that colds and sniffles are fundamentally caused by an out of balance diet, coupled with stress that allows the body’s immune system to be vulnerable to opportunistic bugs that are floating around year round waiting for a weakness to create a space for them to attack.

I know the media is currently agog with news about the new flu’ season and the need to get vaccinated.  But honestly, if you get checked to keep your spine in line, eat your veggies and fruit (and lots of them), reduce sugar, eliminate sodas, and DECREASE your stress levels and INCREASE your exercise— you have a great chance to come out unscathed at the end of winter.

Latest News from Charmaine: September 2018

Greetings all,April 2018

Well, routines are being established again and the fall weather is approaching.  Grand Ledge holds its annual Color Cruise event October 11-14th and, I don’t know about you’ but our social schedules are filling up fast.

What with Quilting (and helping a friend or two to make a quilt) yoga, powerlifting, Zumba and office stuff, I find myself running out of time.

One thing I have really mastered is the idea of doubling up on my cooking so that I can have meals at the ready for the crazy days. I believe if you are cutting 1 onion you might as well do 2 (cuts down on stinky hands)!  I also saw a tip recently, where the author suggested doubling a chili slow cooker recipe and bagging half the ingredients (uncooked) and freezing that for later…genius!!!

Chiropractically, I love that everybody is doing the weekend warrior stuff and getting involved in sports. If I may suggest, please make a point of getting checked regularly to make sure you and yours are in good health to enjoy the wonderful fall ahead of us to the max!

See you in the office, on the table, on the mat or under the barbells.

Latest News from Charmaine: August 2018

Greetings all,April 2018

Well, with our kids going back to school, comes the obvious signs that fall is just around the corner and somewhat cooler temperatures, we might hope.  Quite honestly, much as I might gripe about the heat, I honestly do not believe we here in Michigan have much to complain about when you see what is happening in the rest of the country, what with floods and fires and crazy hot temperatures.  As Dr. Ray is wont to say “another day in Paradise” and I have to agree with him.  There is enough variety to make it interesting, and few, if any, major catastrophes.

I have just completed my 4th Senior Olympics in power lifting and have my sights set on competing in States in December…another day, another goal.

So, with the kids going back to school—- I have enclosed an article on Backpack safety and also some”fallish”  recipes as the cooler weather settles in.

See you in the office, on the table, on the mat or under the barbells!
