Your Inner Healer – Let It Out

I desired to know why one person was ailing and his associate, eating at the same table, working in the same shop…was not. Why? What difference was there in the two persons that caused one to have [disease] while his partner…escaped? Why? (1) D.D. Palmer, Founder of Chiropractic

Are you healthy if you feel good? If you said, “Yes,” ask yourself if you ever felt good one day and then came down with a cold, the flu or some other condition the next.

Are you in tune with your inner healer? inner healer

There is a part of your body that is especially intimate with your inner wisdom: your nervous system, composed of your brain, spinal cord and the billions of nerves that emerge from them. Your nervous system touches every nook and cranny of your body, and your innate intelligence uses this vast communications system to organize your billions of parts into a healthy, adapting, living being. (2) True health or adaptation can only emerge when your innate intelligence can communicate to your body parts without interference or “static.”

A complete loss of communication happens in death; a partial loss results in a general deterioration of health – or “dis-ease” – you are less alive and less able to cope with life’s stresses. Eventually a dis-eased state turns into disease conditions. (3)

Subluxations are a common, often painless condition that stresses your spine and nervous system and causes “static,” dis-ease or body malfunction. Doctors of Chiropractic spend years of training learning how to locate and correct your subluxations, freeing your body from dis-ease and helping you better reconnect to your inner healer.

Make sure you are free of subluxations – visit your chiropractor today!

Latest News From Charmaine: December 2017

Greetings all,December 2017

Can anybody tell me where the year has gone?  Just the other day we were in Summer, and now we are on a very rapid path to December 31 and onward to 2018!

Just a gentle reminder that we will be out of the office 12/21/17-1/1/2018 and back on Tuesday 1/2/2018.  Alfred turns one just about Christmas time so we are off to celebrate with him and the parents.

As you mentally get ready for the Holiday season, make a serious effort to evaluate some of the things that you have been doing for years and ask yourself if it still gives you pleasure…if not – toss it, and, if someone complains, explain that you don’t get the joy anymore and offer them the opportunity to step up if they feel they want to see it continue (most of the time they will let it go when they discover the work involved!).  We tend to hang on to traditions that suck the joy out of this time and life is too freakin’ short for that.

Also, mentally check your intention for next year…see if it still resonates…and then… GO FOR IT…keep it simple and do-able, so that you don’t give up by the third week of January…many Gym clubs make a killing from failed New Years’ Resolutions not kept.

Quinoa-Cranberry Stuffed Acorn Squash

SERVES 4

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 medium acorn squash (2 to 2 1/4 pounds each)
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 cup red quinoa, rinsed well
  • 1 teaspoon mild curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 cup loosely packed fresh parsley leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup roasted, salted and shelled pistachios, coarsely chopped

INSTRUCTIONS

Position an oven rack in the middle of the oven; preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Cut each squash in half lengthwise and scoop out and discard the seeds. Arrange the halves in a large baking dish, flesh-side up.

Whisk together the vinegar, 2 tablespoons of the oil and the maple syrup in a cup. Brush the flesh side of the squash halves with some of the maple mixture and sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of pepper. Put the squash flesh-side down in the baking dish, then brush the skin side with maple mixture and sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of pepper. Roast until the squash is fork-tender, 50 to 60 minutes. Poke the inside of the squash halves with a fork and brush generously with more of the maple mixture.

Meanwhile, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden brown, about 6 minutes. Add the quinoa, curry powder, cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon salt and stir until the spices are toasted, about 1 minute. Add 2 cups water and bring to a simmer. Lower the heat, cover the pan and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the quinoa is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed, 15 to 18 minutes. Remove from the heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Uncover and stir in the cranberries, remaining maple mixture, half of the parsley and half of the pistachios.

Stuff the squash halves with the quinoa and sprinkle with the remaining parsley and pistachios. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Cook’s Note

The squash may be baked and stuffed the day before and refrigerated. To reheat, cover the baking dish loosely with foil and reheat in a 350-degree F oven, checking the squash every 5 minutes until it is hot.

Sweden’s Revolutionary Recycling

DUE TO RECYCLING, SWEDEN IS RUNNING OUT OF TRASH RECYLING

When it comes to recycling, Sweden sets an example for the rest of the world. Thanks to a government prioritization on sustainability, the Nordic country recycles 1.5 billion bottles and cans annually, a staggering amount for a population of about 9.6 million (in 2013). In terms of rubbish, Swedes only produce a measly 461 kilograms (1,106 pounds) of waste average per year—less than 1% of discard ends up in landfills. This is slightly below the half-ton average in the rest of Europe.

This impressive commitment to an eco-friendly world has a bizarre effect on electricity production. Sweden participates in a waste-to-energy (WTE) program, and they have 32 of these special plants. If you’re unfamiliar with this unique form of energy production, here’s how it works: furnaces are loaded with garbage and burned to generate steam. This newly-produced gas is then used to spin generator turbines and produce electricity, transferred to transmission lines and the power grid. By using this approach, the country is able to reduce toxins that seep into the ground. “When waste sits in landfills, leaking methane gas and other greenhouse gasses, it is obviously not good for the environment” Swedish Waste Management communications director Anna-Carin Gripwell explained in a statement.

Before incinerating garbage, it’s first filtered by home and business owners. Things that can be recycled are separated (such as food scraps and paper products), and anything that can be salvaged is set aside. Because would-be waste is carefully examined, it leaves relatively little for the WTE program. As a result, Sweden imports garbage from the UK, Italy, Norway, and Ireland to ensure they stay up and running.

Don’t Trash It, Repair It!

Sweden continues to think of innovative ways to stay green. “We feel that we have responsibility to act responsibly in this area and try to reduce our ecological footprint,” states Per Bolund, Swedish Finance and Consumption Minister in a video for AJ+. “The consumers are really showing that the want to make a difference and what we’re trying to do from the government’s side is to help them act, making it easier to behave in a sustainable way.”
GIVES US PAUSE TO THINK ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF TRASH WE GENERATE –RIGHT???

Researching Chiropractic: Disabled

A U.S. military veteran had been suffering from severe low back and neck pain for the past 12 years. Due to his pain he was considered 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

During his six months of care the patient was continually re-evaluated as care progressed. The patient’s Lumbar Oswestry, Neck Disability Index, vitals, range of motion, orthopedic and neurological findings all improved under care. By this time, the patient was able to walk without assistance and regained the ability to perform many activities of daily living. (1)

What’s in a flu shot?

Do you know what is in a flu shot? flu shot

The new flu vaccine is made with armyworms and insects? UGH!
The Flublok® flu vaccine is made with insects and armyworms. How’d you like that injected into your kids, spouse or yourself?
Here is what the package insert for the Flublok’s quadrivalent vaccine states:
Flublok Quadrivalent may also contain residual amounts of baculovirus and Spodoptera frugiperda cell proteins (= 19 mcg), baculovirus and cellular DNA (= 10 ng), and Triton X-100 (= 100 mcg).
To clarify: baculovirus are viruses that infect insects. Spodoptera frugiperda are armyworms.
Will people start having worm-like qualities a la Spiderman getting bit by a spider and developing superpowers? That’s a great comic book story but not real life. Besides what would a person with worm-like powers look like or be able to do?

Why do so many people use chiropractic for back and neck pain?

Questions and Answers About Chiropracticspinal surgery

Question: Why is chiropractic considered a treatment for back and neck pain by many people?

Answer: It’s a matter of real estate, i.e. location.

Back and Neck Pain

Doctors of Chiropractic work on your spine and structural system in order to release nerve interference or nerve stress (subluxations). We work on that part of the body because that’s where the nerves are. Because chiropractors work on the spine it is assumed we are treating spinal pain. But why do children with asthma, bedwetting and allergies respond to chiropractic care? Why do women with menstrual cramps or those with headaches and migraines respond to chiropractic care? Why is there better sports performance and improved balance, vision and hearing?

That’s because nerves from your spine are like telephone wires connecting your brain to your internal organs, glands, muscles and many other body parts. They need to communicate with no static or interference. spinal surgeryHowever, if your spine has subluxations (distortions affecting nerves), your communication system breaks down, affecting your entire body and that can affect the organs your nerves connect to. See the illustration showing how nerves from the spine (and brain) connect to your organs, etc. Chiropractic is good for your whole body – it’s wholistic.

After all, chiropractic was discovered by DD Palmer when a patient’s hearing returned after a spinal adjustment.

So yes, nerve-muscle-spine (neuromusculoskeletal) pain responds very well to chiropractic adjustments but chiropractors work on the spine to help the whole body. Don’t limit chiropractic care to aches and pains – it can help people in many ways.
