What is Ankylosing Spondylitis?

Chiropractic care can help with all sort of things. Even things that are hard to pronounce like Ankylosing Spondylitis.

Ankylosing Spondylitis in a 38-year-oldankylosing spondylitis

A 38-year-old man entered a chiropractor’s office complaining of upper back pain, neck pain, left groin and bilateral buttock pain, right patella and right medial heel pain. Ten years prior, the patient sought medical consultation with a rheumatologist and was diagnosed with Reiter’s Syndrome, which was later amended to Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). He was told he’d continue to deteriorate over the years.

Medical care consisted of Pamidronate and Alendronate (prescription medications) that he had discontinued on his own.

The patient reported relief of all his pain symptoms, increased mobility and improved posture. He had 16 appointments for care over a one-year period with constant improvement. He continues care on a periodic basis.

If I’m feeling fine do I really need chiropractic care?

Questions and Answers About Chiropractic

Question: If I’m feeling fine do I really need chiropractic care?

Answer: More than ever. Why? If I'm feeling fine do I really need chiropractic care

By the time a person has symptoms they may have been in a weakened, dis-ease state for a long time. Don’t wait until you have serious symptoms; chiropractic can locate hidden blockages or interferences to proper function (subluxations) now before they become more obvious and painful or disturbing later.

It’s sometimes helpful to think of chiropractic as you would dental care. For example, you may have dental cavities, an infected root canal or other dental infections and yet you may feel no pain. All the while, there is a problem silently festering, sometimes for years, that may be affecting your entire body and can ultimately ruin your health. You get your teeth checked periodically – what about your spine and structural system? That’s where chiropractic comes in.

You can also think of chiropractic care as similar to good nutrition – always important to maintain good health and absolutely necessary if a person has a health problem.

How do Adults Benefit from Chiropractic Care?

Let us count the ways … drawing of spinal column and nerves

Physical, emotional and chemical stresses accumulate as we age. Every system in our body needs energy, and stress interferes with the flow of energy. Our ability to heal, to grow and to repair is diminished. We age faster than we should and dis-ease (body malfunction) eventually causes disease.

For improved function of your immune, digestive, eliminative, cardiovascular and other systems, your body needs unobstructed communications. You need to reverse the damage stress causes.

That’s why, for a healthier life, chiropractic care for everyone is absolutely essential. Chiropractic helps people live free of obstructions caused by subluxations – structural distortions that interfere with internal nerve communication and energy flow.

Study after study shows how important a subluxation-free body is to your health. And the millions of chiropractic patients over a hundred years prove it works. No matter what the named disease or condition a person may be diagnosed with, a subluxation-free body is essential. (1-5).

For that reason, you and your loved ones need periodic chiropractic checkups and adjustments. Everyone, from newborn babies to the elderly, needs a body free from the severe stress caused by subluxations.

Researching Chiropractic: Raynaud’s Syndrome

Chiropractic clinical case histories have been a regular feature of our patient newsletter since its inception. There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, on drugs, facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?   Probably most of them.

Raynaud's Syndrome

Resolution of Raynaud’s Syndrome

A 29-year-old woman had been suffering from cold, stiff hands with discoloration for the previous 10 years as well as intermittent spinal stiffness.

She had subluxation-based chiropractic care for 11 weeks that added up to 15 visits. Both pre and post x-ray studies were utilized to show correction of abnormal curvature of the spine and pelvis.

After 15 visits, she had significant improved neurological function and symptom relief of Raynaud’s Syndrome.

Do you know someone who always has cold hands and feet? Chiropractic Care could help! Please share this with them.

Treatment for Ear infection in a 10-year-old

This boy suffered from fluid-filled ears, allergies and sleep disturbances. He was prescribed Flonase® and Zyrtec® for his allergies. His parents brought him in for chiropractic care.

A chiropractic examination found a loss of normal neck curve, sacrum misalignment, and subluxations in the upper back (3rd thoracic or T3), lower (lumbar) spine and the base of the skull.

The child was adjusted at T3. His ear started draining immediately and continued draining for the next two days. After two weeks of care X-rays were retaken and showed restoration of normal neck curve and alignment of the sacrum and pelvis. The child’s otitis media resolved.

Please share this with parents, or anyone else, who suffered from ear infections or ear pain, or have kids that do. Thank you!

Chiropractic Case Study: Foot Drop

Foot dropfoot drop

A 24-year-old male weight lifter presented with insidious onset of foot drop upon waking from bed. There were no preceding signs or symptoms prior to the foot drop. The pain was intolerable and pressure could not be applied while standing. He went to the hospital emergency department the morning the initial symptoms appeared. All medical testing and imaging were negative.

He then followed up with the chiropractic clinic and following an exam and adjustments his symptoms began to diminish. After four visits the patient had complete resolution of all signs and symptoms. (1)

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)lupus

There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, on drugs, facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?

Probably most of them.

A 34-year-old woman with SLE went to a chiropractic office for detection of subluxations. Her symptoms included constant chronic pain; constant fibromyalgia-related symptoms; chronic fatigue, anxiety and depression-related symptoms; stiffness in the neck; thyroid problems; menstrual disorder; stomach disorder; mid back pain; irritable bowel; numbness in her feet; low back pain and leg pains.

Using chiropractic analysis, several vertebral subluxation complexes were located.

She received 11 spinal adjustments over the first twelve visits and upon re-examination, she was “much improved.” Her right and left leg pain and numbness in her feet completely resolved and her menstrual disorder completely resolved. In addition, her stomach disorder, irritable bowel syndrome symptoms, systemic lupus erythematosus related symptoms and ADD/ADHD related symptoms were much improved. At her next re-examination, her Raynaud’s, systemic lupus erythematosus, depression and nausea were all completely resolved. She also stopped taking seven medications including hydrocodone, tramadol, flexeril, gabapentin and Wellbutrin®.

Her blood work revealed resolution of systemic lupus erythematosus. (1)

Researching Chiropractic: Constipation

constipationChronic constipation in a 5-year-old

A 5-year-old girl suffering from abdominal pain (gastritis) and chronic constipation began chiropractic care. MDs could not find any cause. A high fiber diet and laxative use as directed by her medical doctor was not effective.

Chiropractic care was initiated. She was seen and adjusted two times a week for two weeks, followed by one visit a week for 10 weeks.

At visit number 12, the patient no longer complained of abdominal pain and the patient’s mother reported an improvement in the patient’s demeanor as well as a complete resolution of her chronic constipation.

Why Lifetime Chiropractic Care?

You’ve probably heard the old myth that “once you go to a chiropractor, you have to go for the rest of your life.” lifetime chiropractic care

It’s not true.

However, we do have many patients who chose to see us once a month or even more frequently.

What’s going on?

Stress levels

Those who face physical, chemical, or emotional stress (that’s all of us) often find regular chiropractic adjustments helpful in correcting muscle tightness and the resulting postural changes.

Avoiding a relapse

Because long-standing spinal problems can produce weakened areas that are susceptible to repeated problems, regular care may often help strengthen supporting muscles and ligaments, avoiding a flare-up.

Prevention

Regular chiropractic checkups can often detect smaller problems before they become more serious (and difficult to correct).

Wellness

Being our best starts with an interference-free nervous system.

Gravity

And let’s not forget the relentless effects that gravity places on our body. Regular chiropractic care helps maintain proper spinal curves to accommodate the compression of spinal joints due to gravity.

Remember, how long you choose to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you.

We are here to serve you.  How can we help you live life to it’s fullest?
