Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)lupus

There seems to be no limit to the health problems that respond to chiropractic care. How many people suffering, on drugs, facing a life of limitation could be helped by chiropractic care?

Probably most of them.

A 34-year-old woman with SLE went to a chiropractic office for detection of subluxations. Her symptoms included constant chronic pain; constant fibromyalgia-related symptoms; chronic fatigue, anxiety and depression-related symptoms; stiffness in the neck; thyroid problems; menstrual disorder; stomach disorder; mid back pain; irritable bowel; numbness in her feet; low back pain and leg pains.

Using chiropractic analysis, several vertebral subluxation complexes were located.

She received 11 spinal adjustments over the first twelve visits and upon re-examination, she was “much improved.” Her right and left leg pain and numbness in her feet completely resolved and her menstrual disorder completely resolved. In addition, her stomach disorder, irritable bowel syndrome symptoms, systemic lupus erythematosus related symptoms and ADD/ADHD related symptoms were much improved. At her next re-examination, her Raynaud’s, systemic lupus erythematosus, depression and nausea were all completely resolved. She also stopped taking seven medications including hydrocodone, tramadol, flexeril, gabapentin and Wellbutrin®.

Her blood work revealed resolution of systemic lupus erythematosus. (1)

Improvement in a child with autism following chiropractic careautism

A 6-year-old autistic boy with aggressive behavior, hindered social and physical activities, poor eating habits and sleep difficulties was brought in for chiropractic care. The boy was previously diagnosed with autism by a neurologist.

The child was assessed for vertebral subluxations and his subluxations were addressed. He had 15 visits to correct his subluxations over a 6-week period..

The child improved in the following ways: he would fall asleep in less time after being put to bed and his sleep quality and sleep time increased. His aggressive behavior decreased and he exhibited increases in alertness, focus and school work. The parents were especially happy to see their child was able to discontinue use of prescription medications he had been prescribed. (1)

Vaginal birth after multiple cesareanscesarean section

A 39-year-old woman wanted to have a vaginal birth after three prior caesarean sections. She was referred for chiropractic care initially for pregnancy-related low back pain. However, she was pleased to know that chiropractic care could increase her chances.

Following the spinal examination, specific chiropractic adjustments were initiated. She came in for 14 visits over an 8-week period prior to giving birth.

The woman was happy to deliver her baby vaginally.(2)

Resolution of seizures in a 20-year-old maleseizures

A 20-year-old man had been suffering from seizures of “unknown origin.” The seizures had been occurring for the prior 10 months. He was also reporting anger and aggression. He reported having night tremors and waking up multiple times per night.

The seizures were so bad that he was hospitalized three times over the course of a one-year period. He also suffered from severe neck and low back pain.

A case history and physical examination including spinal and structural analysis revealed right head flexion and left posterior pelvis rotation as well as moderate to severe muscle spasms in every area of the spine with limited range of motion and pain/tenderness. After the analysis subluxation-based chiropractic care (spinal adjustments) were initiated.

After the patient’s first week of chiropractic adjustments, he reported that he no longer experienced any seizures, he also reported sleeping better. The patient remained seizure-free and was eventually taken off all seizure medications by his neurologist after 13 weeks of chiropractic care. (3)

High blood pressure, pain and loss of smell after auto accidents. chiropractic case studies

A 58-year-old woman developed high blood pressure as well as right shoulder, right shoulder blade and mid-back pain after a car accident a month before her visit. The case history revealed that she also had lost her sense of smell (anosmia) nine years earlier, after a previous auto accident.

She was under chiropractic care for six months during which time she had 84 visits. Her sense of smell returned after five months of chiropractic care. In addition, she reported a significant decrease in pain from her original chief complaint of right shoulder, right scapular and mid-back pain since her previous auto accident. (1)

Poor posture in an 85-year-old man. chiropractic care helps with poor posture

An 85-year-old male patient presented to a chiropractic office with a chief complaint of difficulty walking and poor posture. He had difficulty in standing up from a chair with no arms, and was also unsteady on his feet. The patient was receiving medical care from various physicians for pre-existing health problems.

Various chiropractic techniques were used to analyze and correct subluxations found in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions. Over the course of chiropractic care the patient was able to get up from a chair with ease and had noticeable improvements in posture, gait, balance and coordination. He was able to decrease his prescription medication usage. (6)

Ear infections and prenatal drug exposureinfant ear

A 13-month-old baby boy with otitis media had been born premature and delivered through cesarean section  with a vacuum used for extraction. At birth his blood contained opiates, methamphetamine and other amphetamines. He had been experiencing bouts of otitis media since three months of age and had previously been managed by medical doctors with rounds of antibiotics and nasal saline.

Chiropractic analysis revealed subluxations in the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacroiliac regions. The boy was checked and adjusted where vertebral subluxations were found and corrected. His mother reported that his otitis media resolved the following week. He continues regular chiropractic care and has not been on any antibiotics since 13-months of age. (1)

Infertility

A 24-year-old woman began chiropractic care with a chief complaint of back pain and a 3.5-year history of infertility. She had infrequent progesterone-induced menstrual cycles.

Physical examination showed postural abnormalities, paraspinal muscular tenderness, myospasm and vertebral subluxations. She was managed for vertebral subluxations through specific chiropractic care. By the ninth visit she had her first normal menstrual cycle since the start of chiropractic care and by the twelfth visit she was pregnant. (2)

Bilateral sciatica in a 77-year-old man.Older man's hands crossed holing a walking stick

The patient was examined for the presence of vertebral subluxation complex using infrared thermography, radiography and video fluoroscopy. Vertebral subluxations and a deviated sacrum were located. After 1½ months of care there was a marked reduction in sciatica symptoms.

Two children with neurodevelopmental issues.

Case 1: An 11-year-old girl with ADHD.young girl in front of tree

She had difficulties with reading comprehension, handwriting and mathematics. Since beginning chiropractic care, her social interaction and emotional state improved. By her 23rdvisit she was in the A range and selected to be tested for the honors program.

Case 2: Developmental delays in crawling and walking in a 13-month-old girl.

The mother described the child’s crawling as a ‘scooting’ motion since the patient’s buttocks remained in contact with the ground. She also was not standing on her own or trying to walk. After four adjustments, she was crawling normally, had taken four steps unassisted, and had not performed the scooting motion since the second visit.

Fatigue, loss of energy and depression in a 30-year-old male.

He also complained of occasional headaches and acid reflux. Over an eight-month period the SF-36 general health survey demonstrated significant improvement particularly in the areas of General Health, Mental Health, and Mental Component Summary with improvements in fatigue and malaise.

Chiropractic Case Studies

The following case studies report findings on how chiropractic care helped people with Breastfeeding, Edema, Low Back Pain, and fibromyalgia.

If you have one of these conditions, or know someone who does, please share this information. We can help!

Breastfeeding and latching difficulty breastfeeding

A four-week-old baby girl was brought in for chiropractic care by her mother who was concerned about the child’s inability to effectively latch onto her left breast when held in the traditional cradle position or any other position.

Multiple subluxations with spasm, limited motion and tenderness were found at the sacrum, the fifth thoracic vertebrae (T5), the atlas (C1) and right TMJ.

Following a specific adjustment to the upper cervical spine and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) the infant could turn her head better and there was a decrease in spasm of the right TMJ-related musculature and the left neck. Immediately afterwards the baby could breastfeed with success and no further issues remained.

The mother reported the baby was able to latch perfectly and nursed without interruption for 30 minutes. The mother returned the next week and reported total resolution of the infant’s inability to latch onto her left breast. (1)

Edema and lower back pain in pregnancypregnant woman's belly

A 28-year-old mom-to-be, pregnant for 33 weeks, presented at a chiropractic office. Her chief complaint was tingling and numbness in the second through fourth fingers on her right hand. She also reported low back pain and right leg swelling. She also had endometriosis, ovarian cysts and two miscarriages.

She was scheduled for 9 visits of care. Within that period of time she received chiropractic adjustments. Her presenting complaints resolved within the time of care. (2)

Chiropractic & exercise: perfect for fibromyalgiawoman lifting weights

Fifty-five women with fibromyalgia ages 21-59 years old were divided into two groups: some completed resistance training and the others received chiropractic adjustments in addition to resistance training. The patients who received chiropractic care were more likely to follow the exercise program consistently and had more significant improvements in functionality, balance, flexibility and endurance.

This study confirmed the power of exercise and resistance training to ease the pain of fibromyalgia. At the same time, it demonstrates that combining chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy may enhance the benefits of both treatments. (3)

Two female patients, ages 28 and 37, each with a history of infertility came to their chiropractor for care. Both also had a history of motor vehicle accidents.

Both patients had cervical (neck) subluxations that were corrected. They were then able to conceive and deliver naturally.

The first patient’s menstrual cycle irregularity returned to normal after which she was able to conceive. The second patient was able to conceive without the use of assisted reproductive treatments for the first time. (1)

BPPV (vertigo)case-studies-vertigo

A 33-year-old pregnant woman suffered from Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV): a spinning sensation when she changed head position. She was prescribed medication, but refused to take it because she was nursing.

She began care during her most severe BPPV episode. She was unable to drive herself to appointments. Spinal and cranial adjusting techniques were administered and within three visits the symptoms had diminished to the point that she was able to drive herself to her visits. By the 14th visit she reported being symptom-free. (2)

Asthma and Headaches

A 15-year-old male presented with chief complaints of asthma and headaches. The patient was under specific chiropractic care and analysis utilizing static radiology, videofluoroscopy, infrared thermography and high frequency pulsating instrumentation. Low Back Paincase-studies-low-back-pain

Low back pain in an 8-year-old. The boy had been suffering from low back pain for two years. Various indicators for an upper cervical subluxation were found. The Blair upper cervical chiropractic technique was used to identify vertebral subluxations using specific radiographs. He received 5 months of chiropractic care using an upper cervical technique to correct the vertebral subluxation. He reported resolution of his middle and low back complaint. (1)

GERD and Chiropractic Carecase-studies-gerd

Improvement of GERD. A 37-year-old man had a two-year history of:

  • GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease)
  • mid-back (thoracic) pain
  • neck (cervical) and thoracic vertebral subluxations

When the patient began chiropractic care he received 12 spinal adjustments over the span of 3.5 months to specifically correct his cervical and thoracic vertebrae subluxations. He experienced a reduction in frequency of GERD symptoms and vertebral subluxations. He was able to maintain a less restrictive diet and remain asymptomatic and reported both quality of mental and physical health as improved and is currently satisfied with his condition. (2)

 Ear infection in a two-year-oldcase-studies-ear-infections

A 2-year-old girl was suffering from constant ear infections and fever. She started suffering when she was one month old, and since then had constant and regular antibiotics. When she came in for chiropractic care the MDs were recommending ear-tube surgery.

The goal of her chiropractic care was to assess, locate and reduce her vertebral subluxations so that her body would function closer to its optimum. After 36 visits, her otitis media was completely resolved, antibiotic use ceased and she never had ear-tube surgery. (3)

Autism and chiropractic case-studies-autism

Four children diagnosed with neurodevelopmental issues were given chiropractic care using techniques to specifically release stress on the brain and meningeal system. All four children showed measurable improvement not just in physical abilities but also in social engagement. (4)
